Diminished Chords Intensive

by | Comping, Jazz Theory

When it comes to playing diminished chords, most guitarists resort to one or two of the same voicings. But, did you know that when a progression calls for a diminished chord you have dozens of chord voicing options to play?

In this lesson I demonstrate what I like to call “adult diminished chords” which is something jazz pianists use a lot. As far as guitarists go, I recall first hearing Jim Hall using them. Today it is common to hear them played by several up and coming jazz guitarists. So if you want to understand what they’re doing, be sure to check out this lesson because I’m going to show you how to derive dozens of new chords from the symmetrical diminished scale. And after that I am going to show you their application over any major or minor standard!
