Ravel Chords for Jazz Guitar

by | Chord Melody, Jazz Theory

Did you know that the bebop pioneers discovered how to use upper extensions from analyzing the music of the impressionists…namely Debussy and Ravel? But the exploration of impressionist harmony on behalf of jazz musicians did not end there! Post-bop musicians have kept going back and learning to incorporate many other harmonic elements introduced by the impressionists.

In this lesson devoted to Ravel’s harmony, I demonstrate how jazz guitarists can incorporate some “impressionist” chords in the context of many well known standards. And there is sooo much to learn from his music, that I am making this a 2-Part lesson series!
