5 Comping Tips To Add Harmonic Motion

by | Comping

In this lesson I explain how to comp over standards that remain harmonically static during various sections… I’m referring to those instances where the same chord lasts for 2 measures or more.

In order to add additional motion and variety in these situations, many jazz players re-harmonize those static passages by adding a chord or two. And the magic ingredient to easily accomplish this task is the use of… Secondary Dominants along with their relative IImin chords. In the process of teaching you this, I am also going to share with you 5 very valuable tips that you will be able to apply to dozens of standards!
