18 Bebop Licks by Grant Green
If you watched and enjoyed my 18 Bebop Licks videos by both Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery, you’ll love this one. And although Grant Green shouldn’t need an introduction, let me just say that he was one of the most recorded jazz guitarists, particularly during the first half of the 60’s. He recorded 34 albums as a leader and roughly 64 albums as a sideman!
If you are serious about learning the makings of a good bebop line, this collection of 18 II-V-I licks features one of my most in depth melodic analysis of a jazz guitarist’s style to date. Along with the previous Charlie Parker and Wes Montgomery lessons, it clearly demonstrates how the most important elements of the bebop language (use of various scales, arpeggios, upper extensions, & rhythms) are masterfully applied.
