“C Jam Blues” in 4 Levels

by | Chord Melody

Duke EllingtonA few weeks back I posted a lesson in which I demonstrated 4 ways of playing the head to Blue Monk by Thelonius Monk. If you dug it, you’ll love this week’s video. That’s because in it I do the same for another well known jazz blues, this time by the great Duke Ellington….C Jam Blues!

This has got to be the easiest blues head ever written, as it consists of only 2 notes…the 5th followed by the root, which in C are ….G and C! However, don’t let its simplicity make you lose interest as I’m including a version for all levels of players. I first play  the easy original version and then continue with a 2 note counterpoint version, followed by a full chord melody version. For the grand finale, I show you a solo guitar version featuring walking bass!
