Blue In Green Chord Melody

by | Chord Melody, Jazz Standards

Have you ever wished you could play on guitar some of those rich, colorful chord voicings, that you often hear in the music of jazz pianists like Bill Evans? I know I did for the longest time, however when I examined some piano transcriptions I found most of them physically impossible to reproduce on the guitar….that is, until I learned to combine open and fretted strings as a means to incorporate intervals of a minor second within chords.

In this video I you’ll learn a finger-style chord melody arrangement of “Blue In Green”…a gorgeous ballad originally recorded by Miles Davis on his classic “Kind of Blue” album. Throughout the lesson I teach you how to play several of the chords as clusters. These are “one of a kind” voicings which feature one or more intervals of a maj/min second. They also incorporate several nested upper extensions. These, by the way, are different varieties of 9ths, 11ths, and 13ths, tightly sandwiched between the basic chord tones.

The Blue In Green Files can be downloaded for $7.50 (buy me a cup of coffee and a snack?). Your contribution is much appreciated, as it helps support the site and allows me to keep investing the long hours required to produce these lessons. The download includes: a PDF of the arrangement with both regular notation and TAB, an MP3 of the arrangement, a Band In A Box file, and a MIDI file which you can play at any tempo as well as use to loop different sections.

Greetings! Your “Blue in Green Chord Melody” is great. But according to my understanding (26:01) CMaj 7#11 TAB doesn´t synchronise with the movement of your fingers.

    Regards
    Ra

There is no music at 26:01…However I know what you are talking about and the C root is on the 5th str instead of the 6th on the tab. Other than that, the tab is correct. Fortunately I corrected it on the PDF download but there is no way to correct it on You Tube. I will post a note below the video. Thanks for mentioning it…
