Bebop Reverse Engineered presents a step-by-step
method for reducing classic bebop lines to their essential harmonic and melodic framework, then rebuilding them into new, stylistically faithful variations. Using excerpts drawn from Charlie Parker, it treats each phrase as a set of “approach-note events” that resolve into structurally important target tones, revealing the internal logic behind why the line sounds unmistakably bebop. Bebop Reverse Engineered applies the method to ten Charlie Parker phrases, each shown in its original form and in multiple reconstructed versions that preserve the targets while altering approaches, rhythm, and (in some cases) tonal color via modal interchange.
